Elk Fire
Airbnb.org is partnering with Mile High United Way to provide free, emergency housing for people who have been displaced by the Elk Fire in Hinsdale and Gunnison counties, Colorado. The Elk Fire, ignited by lightning on July 9, 2026, has burned over 2,000 acres and triggered mandatory evacuations near Lake City.Residents impacted by the fire can directly apply for housing if their primary home is in a mandatory evacuation zone, and we can verify your identity. You must have an Airbnb account to verify your identity, if you don’t have one you can create one here. If you have an evacuation notice or an evacuation warning, you are not currently eligible for emergency housing through Airbnb.org.
If you’d like to help provide free stays to people impacted by the fire, you can make a donation to Airbnb.org. 100% of donations go directly to emergency housing. If you’re an Airbnb host, you can sign up to offer discounted stays for impacted residents. Airbnb donates its host service fees to Airbnb.org for these stays and provides hosts with AirCover for each booking.
